White List

The server has build up a good community of regulars and respectable players. Maybe we should think about possibly turning the server into a white list server. Being that we have a forums page anyone who wants to play on the server could post a request here.

I think this would be a great way to fix the multiple griefing issues that the server has been encountering. There has been far to many times that a random player joins the server to just destroy the hard work that the server's loyal playerbase has created. With a white list, those griefers would have no shot in destroying the creations of the regulars.

I'm on the fence.

For one, this WOULD prevent a lot of griefing.

On the other hand, I'm not really a fan of the whitelist ideas. One of the reasons I made this server my home was that is WASN'T a whitelisted server. And it would take staff to approve the whitelist applications.

The reason why I joined this server was also due to the fact that it was not whitelisted.

To be honest, I...can't think of any.

Like I said, in general, I'm against whitelisting.

Hm....we could have a guest-only area! There'd be ~5 ranks: Guest, Member, Donor, Moderator, Admin. Guests could build freely in a designated area of the map, close to spawn (I'd be willing to map it out and block it off and make a road to it from spawn) Members can build anywhere outside of spawn and inside the donor box, (as everyone can now) donor, mod, and admin ranks stay the same.

I like that idea nbord and id be willing to help map it out as well. that would be a good way for new pple to come join and experience the server without waiting to be put on the white list while at the same time preventing people who are only comming in to destroy shit from doing just that. Itll keep the members safe without cutting off getting new members

Alright im fine with there being no whitelist.

Yes, no whitelist. I've been a member of a server with a whitelist for quite some time and it gets so lonely because no-one is willing to join. I hate grievers as much as the next person, but if the prevention method cripples Rapture, I'm against it.

So what do you think of the Guest Area idea?

It can be huge, just a place where guests can build. We're not going to cramp them up in 100x100, you know.

There are enough ways to stop and reverse griefers that a "guest area" is not needed. Most of you built a lot of ur stuff in the first few days you were on the server a guest area would just become the main area as no one would be willing to leave when they were allowed to.

Still, admins can't always be on, and there's no way to immediately deal with a griever.

It's a pain to wait for an admin to be on to fix your stuff.

Yeah, white list should help.

The main reason I joined was because it wasn't a white list server. When ever I go onto a server that is a white list server I find another server. Although it would help with the anti-griefing it would (in my opinion) not add many new players to the server.

Quee said a few post up that the server will never have a whitelist, so there's no point in discussing one.

We can, however, discuss grief-prevention ideas, and I'm interested in hearing everyone's.

I'll say it again. No whitelist ever it just goes againts what this server is about. Allowing any one to jump in and play. Ill lock the thread but feel free to start another one regarding topics mentioned in this one.
