I may start a new map once i upgrade the server next month. The map is only a week old so i think its safe to say its very young. But as it was our first server a few mistakes were made preventing it from being perfect. In the end, we'll see but feel free to post you opinions below as thats what ill be basing my decision on.

Well, I wouldn't be against creating a new map from a selfish point of view. I'm not really that pleased with what I have right now, so starting afresh would be great- but from a community-minded point of view: I can understand that many members would get very upset at the disappearance of their precious buildings.

I support recreating the map, but I would totally understand if it didn't go ahead :)

Im down with a new map although i quite like what ive built, and some projects ive put a good 10 hours in to complete, but that is the fun of
minecraft, starting a fresh means you get to do it again, but better.

However.. im still in favour of a whitelist, or atleast some kind of protection from griefers such as a guest area

well i dunno how id feel about a new map. Ive spent quite a lot of time working on my mine. if there is a way to copy my mine over to a new map i wouldnt mind that at all.

the new server has been up for a total of 5 days leaving another 3+ weeks to get more attached or want a new map

Wait, Are you saying that this is our new map? Im confused lol. I like the map we played on before the update

I think he is talking about the map before the temporary server...
I just believe that his time-frame is wrong. It has been up for at least 7-9 days.
And I personally like the server and all the work that I have put into it thus far.
Having said that, I think that with the amount of new players entering into the server, the current server will either need the borders expanded in the future or like Nbord said to start a new map. However, we are still weeks away from that being necessary.

I mean the one that everyone built on. The one we have now is a temp map, don't get too attached to anything as it is 99% un admined. Without any plugins at my disposal I am a terrible admin. Also the 5 days I meant was with the new IP as we have an entire month on that server.

Here's my opinion.
keep a temp map until we have the necessary plugins to run our original map.
after notch creates a new savefile format, inevitably destroying everything, we make a new map.

I put a lot of work into what I have made, but I wouldn't mind starting again, I have a huge project in mind, so if we are starting a new server then I won't start the project yet.

I still do not think a new map at this time would be good. There is no way that I would start at a new map after my transition from my first home to my current second one. I'm sure a lot of other people would agree that they would like to continue to build on the current map. Now I am not saying that a new map isnt out of the question. But I think since the map is less than a month old it still has a few more miles to go on it before it is necessary to make the move. Like I said, in my opinion to change the map now is out of the question.

I'm going to retract my support for a new map for the time being. I'm suddenly feeling very attached to my work on the server and I would hate to see it go.

nbord you should add a pole (spelling?) to this topic so we can get the strait stats on who wants yes and who wants no. im fine with whatever, not terribly happy with what ive got now, but its kinda cool. Anyway i am leaning towards a new map.

considering the giant structure i was working on for prolly over a week got griefed in donor land... im down for a new map

The area that is not donor land is quickly becoming filled up. Its hard to walk around a find an area to build a small house, let alone a huge project. This can lead to 2 things. New map, or demolition squad. Over the past few days some other admins and I have been destroying every ugly house with no logs of building on it. Since we recently deleted our logs this isn't effective and can ruin houses of people who just haven't built there in a few days. Rumors of a new map type are spreading and this may be the push we need to create a new map. Otherwise any house that hasn't been edited in a few days may just get destroyed.

Once again I've suddenly decided I don't like what I've built, and so I'd like a new map XD
